Brian and Sally that is!
I thought you'd like to get to know them better...
They are our Bearded Dragons. Brian is around 2 years old and is actually the female. You can't really sex bearded dragons until they are around 6 months old so mum and dad took a chance with the name. When they worked out 'he' was a 'she', it was a bit too late to change the name as Brian already answered to it. She wasn't very well when she was younger and it actually stumped her growth meaning she is much smaller than your normal female Beardie.
We decided last year that Brian would benefit from a companion. We had always got her out lots and bathed her everyday but she started to look almost depressed and wouldn't get herself up in the mornings, wouldn't touch her veg and showed no interest in eating bugs.
We found an 18 month old male for her that had also been a little unwell when he was younger and therefore was slightly smaller than your average male Beardie. It was important that we found a male who was on the smaller side. This male had previously lived with a female who he had been quite submissive too - a good thing for Brian.
We decided to get him and do things completely back to front by calling him Sally. It was love at first sight. A little head bobbing here and there to establish a relationship and next thing, they were inseparable.
Brian is now the first up in the morning, first to the veg bowl, eagerly looks forward to bug time and absolutely loves her Sally.
Now Bernie - you taught me lots today. I would have never guessed that bearded dragons responded to their names! I found the entire post - fascinating. Don't get it twisted, I still love reading about you :) but I enjoyed learning something about reptiles. It was an added bonus to this blogging challenge.
