Thoughtless Thursday: Follow me!

Posted on Thursday, 6 March 2014

We're properly getting into the swing of things now, mum and I. We're so happy with how our blog is coming along. We're absolutely loving Blog Hops as well (now that we understand them - it took a while).

Today we're taking part in a blog hop hosted by Ruckus the Eskie. It seems there's no theme in particular, just blog about what you like and hop on!

Going on our recent success that we've had with the blog, I thought I would link you to some other social media sites that I can be found on. Mum recently added some nifty buttons to the right of our blog where you can get linked to everything.
I set up my own twitter account 2 days ago and have already hit 100 followers! If you're on there make sure to follow me and give me a shout so I can follow you back.
I've been on tumblr for a year now and it's a brilliant place to find all my photos.
My facebook is a working progress but visiting it will give you an idea of what I have planned for the future. Watch this space!
For all you photo mad phone people, you can also follow me on my very own instagram
If you're still not satisfied you can track me on packdog! This is a relatively new site that I became a part of when it was being tested and I've liked it so much I've stuck around.

We're passing The Liebster Award on to 5 lucky blogs

Posted on Tuesday, 4 March 2014

Our blog was kindly awarded The Liebster Award by Earl's World. Cheers guys!

So what does this mean?

When you receive and give this award, you must also list 5 things about yourself - so here goes:

  1. Despite what people say, my tail is not docked. Frenchies have naturally short tails
  2. I am actually part Pug. They're one of the breeds along with the Terrier and the Miniature British Bulldog that make up the French Bulldog
  3. My favourite human food is cheese
  4. My best friend is a German Shepherd named Wilf
  5. I bite my dads earlobe to show my affection for him - I don't do this to anyone else
Now it is my duty to pass the award onto 5 blogs I deem worthy:
  • http://fromsophiesview.blogspot.co.uk/
  • http://mydogdiaries1.blogspot.co.uk/
  • http://tommy-schnauzer.blogspot.co.uk/
Don't forget to display your award with pride!

Positive Pet Training Blog Hop: Target Training and It's Uses

It's Bernie's mum here taking over the blog for the first time ever!

I wanted to tell you about target training and how the 'touch' command has helped Bernie and myself in learning new tricks and commands!

Bernie has known the 'touch' trick for a few months now. He picked it up ever so quickly. Here's how we did it just in case you'd like to give it a go with your dog. This works particularly well if your dog is food orientated like my Bernie is...
  1. Have some smelly treats at the ready
  2. Sit down in front of your dog, place a treat in one hand and make a fist
  3. Hold your fist out - your dog should instinctively go to that hand
  4. When his nose touches your fist, open your hand and give them the treat
  5. Repeat, having a treat in your hand each time
  6. Mix things up and put a treat in your other hand. Once you're sure they've got this bit, move onto the next step
  7. Now try placing the flat of your hand out with no treat - They should have learned that a 'touch' results in a treat - Continue to hold your hand there if it takes them a little longer to figure it out
  8. Always treat after your dog touches nose to hand
  9. You can use the flat of your hand or use two fingers as a signal like shown in our photo
  10. Once they've got it you can add the command 'touch' and have a bit of fun with it!
I found this trick to be a great stepping stone to other tricks...
  • It's been brilliant to use in recall training  - an area that has been a very stubborn one for Bernie
  • By placing my hand above his head whilst he is sitting we've taught him to 'sit pretty'
  • By moving my hand in a circle around him to make him follow we're also in the process of learning 'spin'
So, those are the basics! From there you can teach your dog to use their nose and even their paws to target your hands, feet, target stick, door... Anything you want to use as a target really!

Super Supplements and Herbal Health

Posted on Monday, 3 March 2014

I thought it was about time I listed which supplements my mum gives me, the reasons for them and why I recommend them!

My mum gives me a tablet a day and will up this to two a day in the summer time as I tend to suffer from hayfever. I'm so good at taking them now she no longer has to hide them in my food.

"Garlic has antibiotic, antiseptic and anti-viral properties confirmed and has anti-inflammatory compounds. Fenugreek seeds also contain anti inflammatory properties.  When given regularly at the maintenance dose Garlic & Fenugreek Tablets increase resistance to infections by stimulating the immune system."

Mum will add this to my food during the winter time as I get 'Snow Nose' when it gets too cold outside. All I need is a quarter of a teaspoon added to my food each day and my pink nose turns back to black within a few months.

"A liquid to supplement the diet by providing specific nutrients to enhance and maintain good pigmentation.
These two plants are rich in iron and iodine, both essential for good pigmentation. The high levels of these nutrients are preserved in these full strength extracts and are beneficial to enhance and maintain the lack of pigmentation that may occur following a season or during the winter months. Can be given throughout the year and with any dry, wet or complete feeding regimes."

Apple Cider Vinegar

This one can be bought from your local shop and has all kinds of benefits from repelling fleas to soothing itchy feet! My mum adds a splash of it to my water a couple times a week to stop my tears staining the folds of my face red. I don't have a problem with it being in my water bowl but some dogs don't like the taste so I advise you also offer plain water just in case your dog doesn't want to drink the water with AVC in it. You wouldn't want to risk them drinking less water and possibly becoming dehydrated.

Olive Oil

Another that can be picked up from your local shop if it's not already in your mums cooking cupboard! I'm getting lots of benefits inside and out from having a little olive oil on my kibble. I've been told that it not only makes my food taste nicer (they're not lying) but also keeps my digestive system healthy and my bones and joints supple. On the outside it gives me a soft, shiny. flake-free coat. Mum swears it makes me shed less too. It's her fault she wears so much black, not mine! Much to my disgust I also get a little dab of it on my nose if it gets too dry. It does make my nose lovely and soft I guess.

I run away when I see this bottle but apparently it's keeping my ears healthy... The things I put up with!
Once a fortnight mum cleans my ears with cotton balls and water and will then pop a tiny bit of this stuff in each ear.
It's good for ear mites, itching and canker and a little bottle lasts a lifetime!

My mum also keeps Euphrasia handy for when I get really weepy/gunky eyes and Hepar Sulph just in case I get any ear infections.

BIG apologies - Back to blogging!!

Posted on Sunday, 2 March 2014

I can't believe I've abandoned my blog for the last 7 months!! I'm so so sorry! :(

So much has happened since then! Allow me to fill you in quickly...

My mum became pregnant!
Partly the reason for the absence as she was very unwell in the first trimester

I turned 1!
and looked absolutely miserable about it lol

I had my first family Christmas
and had to wear this stupid outfit. Ho ho help me.

I also decided that showing wasn't for me. I'm more than happy with just being a family pet, especially with my new little brother on the way.

I learned looaaddss of new tricks! You'll find a list on the bottom of this page.

My mum found a food that suits my sensitive tummy and tastes amazing. It's by Wainwrights and is their salmon and potato kibble. I also get their turkey and rice trays - they are my absolute favourite!

I was featured in the Your Dog magazine with my mum. She was quizzed about what it's like to own a french bulldog. I've read it and she's made me sound marvelous.

I learned to cock my leg!

We're moving house... and location! With my little brother on the way we've decided to move from Bristol back to North Devon! I can't wait to show my new little bro all the beaches!

AND I got big!! I now weigh 11kg and mum says I no longer look like a little puppy. Hooray!
